Stockholm
A lot of people think that Stockholm is one of the world's most beautiful capitals. Might this perception have come about because the city is built on and around water? There are 14 islands, linked by 57 bridges. This gives it a very special character. Although Stockholm is a big city, it's not all glass and concrete. For example, there is Ekoparken, which is the first national city park in the world. Stockholm, with its 750-year history and rich cultural life, has a wonderful world-class range of museums and things to see. Most can be reached on foot, and it is easy to see a lot in a short space of time. There is just so much to choose from! There's never a lack of things to do in this royal capital. It's enough to just be there and walk about and see what's going on among the swarms of people. And to that add shopping and loads of restaurants and entertainments. Everything from clubs to the Gröna Lund amusement park and most things imaginable in between. Visit Stockholm City Hall and climb up the tower - that's something you ought to do at least once in your life! And an obvious classic, especially if you are showing newcomers round, is Gamla Stan, the Old City, which is the oldest thing to see in Stockholm. Did you know that it is one of the world's best-preserved medieval town centres?
